HR Intern – Unpaid

Internship Summary:
The Human Resources (HR) Intern will be responsible for assisting in the work of the human resources department including but not limited to payroll, benefits, compensation, personnel questions, and recruitment. Additionally, the HR Intern may be asked to research and provide proposals on projects relating to compensation, benefits, and other key HR components.

 

Hours & Location: 9-15 hours/week with on-site work in Poughkeepsie.

 

Intern Requirements:

  • Interns are required to complete the number of hours designated by their school in exchange for credit hours.
  • Interns must be enrolled in a program with a school that has an executed affiliation agreement with Family Services.

 

Intern Responsibilities: 

  • Reference checks on new hires,
  • Setting up and shadowing in interviews,
  • Auditing work: comparing files to active employees, reviewing files to make sure that medical information is not in the personnel section,
  • Assist with research on questions that come up with regards to benefits, FLSA, and other tasks as assigned.
  • Assistance with background checks
  • Participation in HR, wellness, safety, and morale committee meetings
  • Research and develop proposals related to various HR issues including safety, wellness, morale, benefits, and compensation.
  • Assist HR department with other related HR tasks on an as needed basis.

 

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to listen effectively.
  • Excellent customer service skills, understanding the value of responding to requests in a timely manner with accurate, helpful, and correct information.
  • Ability to work independently; take problems to resolution and present them in that manner.
  • Superior verbal/written skills and presentation skills.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Word and Excel in a Microsoft Windows environment.
  • Able to exhibit a high level of confidentiality.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
